lucie macaulay

Lucie Macaulay has a rather haphazard background in tinkering with various crafts including crochet, mosaic and upholstery. She has been experimenting with the stretchy, curvy and waterproof characteristics of punctured bicycle inner tubes for five years. You can stitch them, snip them, punch holes in them and turn them inside out and they will still hold their shape, not tear or crease and look rather like fine leather. Bike shops no longer mend punctures: they just change the whole tube each time. Many shops are getting rid of up to 100 tubes per week so there is plenty of material for further experimentation.
